Background of the Study
The transportation sector is a critical component of any nation’s development, directly influencing economic growth, regional integration, and urbanization. Under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, significant reforms were made to improve Nigeria's transportation infrastructure. These reforms aimed to address long-standing challenges such as inadequate road networks, poor railway systems, and an inefficient aviation sector. Among the key strategies introduced were the revitalization of the railway system, the expansion of road networks, and improvements in the aviation sector.

Kaduna State, particularly Kaduna North, with its strategic location as a transport hub linking the northern part of Nigeria to other regions, benefited from these transportation reforms. The rail system, in particular, was revived with the construction of the Abuja-Kaduna rail line, which connected the Federal Capital Territory to Kaduna. This study will evaluate the effects of Buhari’s transportation reforms in Kaduna North, particularly focusing on road, rail, and air transport systems, and assess their impact on economic activities, urban mobility, and the standard of living of residents.

Statement of the Problem
Despite the significant investments in the transportation sector under Buhari’s administration, there remain concerns about the actual benefits of these reforms at the grassroots level. In Kaduna North, where transportation challenges were particularly acute due to infrastructural decay, it is crucial to assess the extent to which these reforms have translated into tangible improvements. Issues such as accessibility, affordability, and the long-term sustainability of the reforms remain significant concerns. This study will explore whether the reforms have addressed these challenges and improved the living standards of the local population.
